How many times have you thrown out a loaf of bread, or the heel of a loaf, or stale rolls?
I have, and it PAINS me to throw away $$! So, I started making croutons and
toasted breadcrumbs instead, and not only does it save me money, but I know EXACTLY what the ingredients are!

Making your own croutons only takes a few minutes to toast. Simply take a loaf of unused bread and cube (or blend for breadcrumbs) into whatever size crouton you want. Toss the breadcrumbs lightly with a drizzle of olive oil and place in a single layer on a a baking sheet.  Place into a pre-heated 400 degree oven and bake the croutons for 10-15 minutes, tossing half way.

Stay close to the oven as you get close to the end of baking these yummy morsels or you will have a house full of burnt bread smell! Who wants that?!

Homemade croutons (or toasted breadcrumbs) will keep great in a sealed container or ziplock bag at room temperature for quite a while!
